Dr. Shannon has run a couple of different Mindfulness and Meditation programs through the Montclair Public Schools. She has gone in to teach the teachers, given presentations to parents and even gone into the classrooms of elementary schools to teach about mindfulness and stress management.
Dr. Shannon along with Dr. Marcie Handler offered a 2-hour workshop at Audible Headquarters designed to help staff members learn tools to calm their body through yoga and calm their minds through mindfulness and meditation.
As KKR was transitioning to a new location in NYC, they noticed their staff was more stressed than usual so Dr. Shannon came in to guide them through a gentle yoga class into a meditation.
Not everyone benefits from therapy. This depends on the nature of the problems that need to be addressed and the individuals involved.
Many parents ask this very appropriate question. The answer really depends on the age and developmental stage of your child. For example, for a younger child, it often makes sense to compare going to a psychologist to going to their pediatrician. The purpose of a pediatrician is to help keep your body healthy, the purpose of a psychologist is to help keep your brain healthy. Sometimes it is also helpful to say you are going to a "feelings" teacher who can help with any worries, stress, etc. For older children and adolescents, the conversation is going to be a much more involved and often collaborative process.
Dr. Shannon does not currently accept insurance. She is considered an "out of network" provider. Payment is due at the time of services, and clients are financially responsible for payment. A receipt/statement for services will be provided to you in the beginning of each month, and you may be able to submit this for reimbursement from your insurance company depending on your insurance contract. It is strongly recommended that you contact your insurance company prior to receiving services so that you have a full understanding of your insurance plan's reimbursement policy and structure.
There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. However, if your child is sick, this is an excused cancellation, but please still call as soon as possible to cancel your session.
